John Lyzott

Coach John Richard Lyzott started his wrestling coaching career as an assistant coach at Beech Grove High School, Beech Grove, IN. In 1968, John became the head wrestling coach at McAuthur High School in Hollywood, FL. During the next 23 years, his teams won 282 matches while losing 28 and tying three. His teams won seventeen district championships and four Florida Team Championships. With 15 individual champions to his credit, he ranks among the top three coaches for state titlists, once posting a consecutive unbeaten dual match record of 102-0 verses other Broward County teams. Coach Lyzott was named Coach of the Year by the Sun Tattler fifteen times and Miami Herald Wrestling Coach of the year eight times. He saw McAuthur's 71 dual match winning streak ends on Dec. 21, 1987.
