Jerry Barr wrestled at Kenosha Bradford High School and went on to become a two time captain at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Following graduation, Jerry coached 3 years at Oconto High School, 7 years at Kenosha Tremper High School, 7 years at Burlington High School and 6 years at Burlington Junior High. The last 6 years, Jerry has been active as a WIAA wrestling official. Jerry takes pride in his coaching and his officiating. He is unselfish in giving of his time and talents to wrestling. He is dedicated to wrestling and is very knowledgeable of the sport. Jerry deserves and receives the respect of his peers. He was named Racine County "Coach Of The Year" in 1978. He has appeared as a clinician for various wrestling camps. In 1970 and 1971, Jerry served as president of the Wisconsin Wrestling Coaches Association. Jerry has been a wrestling sports color commentator on the Burlington station TV-3. He has twice served as a national bout maker, first in 1978 for the NAIA Nationals held at UW-Whitewater and again in 1982 for the NCAA D-II Nationals held at UW-Parkside. In his years as varsity wrestling coach, his teams compiled a record of 103-59-1. Jerry's teams have won 3 conference titles, 5 regional titles and 3 sectional championships. Jerry has qualified 19 wrestlers for the state tournament where 11 have won medals. Two of his former wrestlers went on to become NAIA National Champions while wrestling for UW-Parkside. His 1970 and 1972 teams placed fourth and second in the state respectively. Jerry, married and the father of three grown children, is currently living in Burlington with his wife Jeanne. He is the junior high school wrestling coach and Health Coordinator for the Burlington School District.
