John Harmon

Graduating The Lawrenceville School in 1955, John became a wrestling fan while attending the wrestling fanatical Lehigh University, graduating with a B.A. in Mathematics in 1959. Most of career as a programmer/systems analyst for various Fortune 500 companies, including Mutual Life, NY Central RR (where he became a RR aficionado, member of National Railroad Historical Society, & U.S. Representative to TEFS Limited, a group that organizes tours for the study of operating steam power railways), Schenley Industries, Olivetti Corp. & Iowa Pacific Holdings, currently on its Board. Contributing editor of National Mat News 1984-88; Founder & Publisher/Editor of EIWA Newsletter (Awarded Wrestling Publication in 2001 by National Wrestling Media Association), 1990-2013; Co-author History of Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Assn. (EIWA) (2nd + 3rd editions); & 2012 Dellinger Award as the nation's top wrestling journalist. Dir. of Sports Information for EIWA since 1993, on the EIWA Hall of Fame Board of Directors, liaison between NCAA and working media at NCAA Championships 1998-2006. Member of Board of Governors of National Wrestling Hall of Fame, Stillwater, Oklahoma, 1995-2013, Cofounder & Treasurer of NWHOF, NJ Chapter, & current Director since 1999. Harmon has also contributed generously to the sport in financial terms. In addition to helping endow wrestling scholarships at Lehigh & assistant coaching positions, John & his wife Elaine were lead donors for the renovation of Grace Hall (Leeman-Turner Arena), the notorious wrestling venue at Lehigh known as The Snake Pit. They alsonpledged the top gift for the Michael Caruso Wrestling Complex, a new wrestling practice facility now completed. John also served on the Lawrence Township Board of Education, 1978-1990 (Served 3 years as President), & was President of the Mercer County School Board Association.
