Ken Harvey

Born Albino and legally blind, Ken Harvey successfully completed his four year program at the University of MD at College Park Ken started wrestling at the age of 8 for the MD School for the Blind.

The team competed with others in the MD Junior program. For five out of six years on the varsity team at the Maryland School for the Blind Ken was the Eastern Athletic Association for the Blind champion.

The Maryland School for the Blind competed successfully against many schools in Baltimore, DC, and Southern PA.

Ken was a Jr South Atlantic AAU champion while in HS. Ken wrestled for Charley Parks, the coach of the Washington Blvd Lions Club and he also wrestled for the Dundalk YMCA.

In 1956 Ken received a wrestling scholarship from the U of MD. He was undefeated as a freshman. A neck injury ended his college-wrestling career.

In 1958 Ken took the coaching job at the Washington Blvd Lions Club. He also helped form and was a founding father of the MJWL. Ken coached the Lions club for 6 years and saw many of his wrestlers go on to become HS champions throughout the Baltimore public and private schools.

In 1964 Ken started the Patapsco HS wrestling program where he coached the varsity and JV until 1980. As a physical education teacher for Baltimore County for 32 years, Ken encouraged young wrestlers to compete in both Jr league and HS programs.

Ken's interest in wrestling has never diminished. He frequently mentors his former wrestlers and their children.

Ken and his wife, Nancy have 5 children, Ken, Kim,Kelley, Kevin and Katie. All have college degrees.
