Chauncey Carrick

Chauncey Carrick has dedicated nearly four decades to the sport of wrestling as a competitor, coach, administrator, educator, and national leader. A graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School in Iowa, Carrick was a three-year varsity letter winner and captured a Southeast 7 Conference championship in 1987, establishing the foundation for a lifelong commitment to wrestling excellence. He continued his education and wrestling journey at Western Illinois University, earning his bachelor’s degree in 1992, and later completed a master’s degree at Aurora University in 2007.

Carrick quickly transitioned into coaching, first serving at Macomb High School before building a highly successful program at Sycamore High School from 1997 through 2010. During his tenure as head coach, he compiled an outstanding 180-95 dual meet record while mentoring 29 state qualifiers and seven IHSA state place winners. His teams earned two regional championships, five conference titles, and an appearance at the IHSA State Dual Team Tournament. His impact extended far beyond wins and losses, as more than 100 of his wrestlers achieved all-conference honors under his leadership.

Beyond coaching, Carrick became one of the most respected tournament administrators in Illinois and across the nation. Since 2002, he has coordinated bracketing and match distribution for the Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation, while also serving in the same role for the IHSA Boys State Tournament, Big Ten Championships, Mid-American Conference Championships, and NCAA Division III regional events. His organizational leadership has helped shape some of the premier wrestling events in the country. He has also directed the prestigious Sycamore Invitational and Dvorak Invitational tournaments for many years.

Carrick’s service to Illinois wrestling is perhaps most evident through his longtime leadership with Illinois USA Wrestling, where he has served as Cadet Director and later Director of Operations for Freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling. Under his guidance, Illinois athletes and teams achieved remarkable national success, producing dozens of national champions and hundreds of All-Americans across multiple age divisions. His dedication has been recognized with numerous honors, including USA Wrestling’s Greco-Roman Coach of Distinction Award, multiple IWCOA honors, the IKWF Ron Silverstein Award, and induction into the IWCOA Hall of Fame in 2019.
