Alan Morris

Alan Morris Sr. has almost nothing but wrestling in his background.

He gathered the very first individual win for Bradley Central High School when he stepped on the mat in 1973.

From Bradley, Morris wrestled a year at Chattanooga State and one year at the University of Tennessee Chattanooga before joining the military.

After his competition days and service to the country came to an end, Morris decided to step into coaching and moved back to Cleveland in 1986, where he started coaching his oldest son, Al Jr., through the Cleveland Boys Club (now the Boys and Girls Club).

Later Morris started the Bradley Wrestling Club where he was involved for more than 20 years.

When Walker Valley began its wrestling program in the early 2000s, Morris accepted an offer to start heading the Mustangs' program.

In 20 years with Walker Valley, his teams had 298 wins, multiple state tournament qualifiers and state champions. Morris coached two-time, three-time and four-time champions and had wrestlers compete at some of the top NCAA Division I programs and he even coached an NCAA DI coach.

You know a guy has wrestling in his blood and passion in his heart when every one of his children, their spouses and his grandchildren are involved in the sport.

His oldest son, Al Jr., was head wrestling coach at Tullahoma High School and is currently athletic director at Cleveland High School while youngest son, Andy, is assistant coach at Walker Valley and daughter Annie Brackett is a former wrestling scorekeeper. Daughter-in-law Jenna was a head wrestling coach at Tullahoma and was an assistant coach with the nationally-ranked Lady Raider program while daughter-in-law Lauren is former scorekeeper for the Mustangs. Grandsons Destin, Kai and Maddox all wrestle.

Morris is also a member of the Chattanooga Sports Hall of Fame and the Cleveland/Bradley County Old Timers Hall of Fame.
