Paul Reiman

Paul Reiman Mount Vernon High School For thirty years Mouth Vernon High School was graces with one of the most respected gentlemen in the sport of wrestling. Paul Reiman coached the Bulldogs from 1950 to 1980, capturing state tournament places of second in 1961 and the State Championship in 1962. At the time of his retirement, he was the only coach in the state to have had wrestlers at every state tournament. Paul built a wrestling program which reflected the high character of its coach. In honor of Coach Reiman, each year at the "3A" State Wrestling tournament, the Paul Reiman 3A Coach of the Year Award is presented to the coach who has contributed the most the past year to the sport of wrestling. Coach Reiman was also very active in the development of the sport in Washington State. He served numerous terms as the president of the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association and was one or the coaches who worked to establish the Washington State Cultural Exchange Wrestling Program. Paul was inducted into the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in the inaugural class of 1984. Paul passes away in January of 2000. His memorial service was held in the Mt. Vernon High School gym and was attended by hundreds including wrestlers and students spanning his entire 30 year career. Many of the Skagit Valley wrestlers from "arch rivals" Burlington and Sedro Woolley high schools were there to pay tribute to someone they could all call "coach".
