Nate Carr

June 24, 1960 - Present

Dedication, influence, and excellence highlight the life of Nate Carr, the wrestler, and Nate Carr, the man. A champion from a family of champions, Carr's steady focus and anchored life style directed him from noteworthy prep beginnings to outstanding national, international, and coaching careers.

Carr's home state of Pennsylvania provided a highly competitive atmosphere for his high school debut. He posted an amazing record of 115 wins and only seven losses and captured a highly regarded state championship. Taking his winning legacy with him to Iowa State University, he claimed three NCAA championships (1981-83) and two Big Eight crowns.

International competition provided the next arena for his pursuit of excellence. In 1983, he captured a berth on the World Championship team. Three years later, he won both the World Cup and the Pan-American Championships. With positive momentum propelling his career, the 1988 Olympics were his next stop. Winning his way to the championship match, a judge's error denied him the opportunity to continue. With a Bronze medal replacing his dream of gold, he carried on. In 1990, he was again a member of the World Championship Team and won the Goodwill Games.

Utilizing his vast experience, Carr continued his participation in the sport as an assistant coach at West Virginia University. There he mentored young men in life skills and wrestling technique positively impacting the individuals and the program. For his efforts and results, the National Wrestling Coaches' Association named him the 1991 National Assistant Coach of the Year.

For his winning legacy as a competitor and a coach, Nate Carr is honored as a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
