Dan Gable to attend special autograph signing

WATERLOO, Iowa—The National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum will host a special autograph signing with museum namesake Dan Gable during the Battle of Waterloo.

The signing will take place at 2 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 18 at Young Arena, which is two blocks from the Gable Museum. Copies of Gable’s new book “A Wrestling Life: The Inspiring Stories of Dan Gable” will be available at a reduced price of $20 each. Dan Gable posters will also be available for $10.

“This is a special opportunity to interact with the greatest athletic icon our state has produced,” said Kyle Klingman, director of the Gable Museum. “Waterloo is the wrestling capital of the world largely because of Dan Gable.”

Hours of operation at the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum will be extended during the tournament. The museum will be open from 6 a.m. to 5 p.m. both Friday and Saturday. A wide variety of items are available in the gift shop, including several limited edition holiday specials.

Gable is arguably the greatest athlete and coach ever. In 1972 won a gold medal at the Munich Olympics without surrendering a point. As the head coach at the University of Iowa he led the Hawkeyes to 15 NCAA team titles in 21 years, compiling a 355-21-5 dual meet record.

Young Arena has been an excellent facility for wrestling competitions over the years. It has hosted the World Team Trials, the Division III NCAA tournament, international dual meets, and hundreds of youth competitions.

The National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum is located at 303 Jefferson St. in Waterloo. All are welcome to attend this special autograph signing and visit the museum.
