FORT WAYNE, Ind. - Wrestling official Rick Tucci has traveled to every corner of the country and the world with endless stories about every place since he started officiating international matches in 1973.
Tucci was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member in 2001 and received the Meritorious Official award in 2004. He was presented the Lifetime Service to Wrestling award from the Florida Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2000.
The best story could be his time in Indianapolis in 1987 for the Pan-American Games, where he met his wife, Cina, a Fort Wayne native.
“I met her at the Pan American Games in Indianapolis in 1987, and she was an interpreter for a Panamanian wrestling president,” Tucci said. “We talked and communicated and now, I’m here.”
The couple will be celebrating their 25th anniversary this year, but it won’t be at the Rio Olympics, as originally planned.
Tucci will be attending a ceremony for his United World Wrestling Hall of Fame induction in the Officials category.
It will be the least amount of time he has spent at the Olympics since the Los Angeles games in 1984.
