Mass Mayhem

In 2012, the MA-NWHOF initiated its "Spring Awards" with the inaugural Peckham Scholarships at the Framingham Sheraton. The scholarships were presented to four outstanding wrestlers (Jeff Ott, Ryan O'Boyle, Mike Mui, and Logan David). The Peckham family was well-represented at this "Spring Social", which was a tribute to Coach Jim Peckham and also featured a former Malden wrestler who is a comedian. Jeff Ott was also presented with the 2012 Massachusetts Schultz Award at the event. A few weeks earlier, Jeff Ott had organized a "Prep-Public" dual meet at Nashoba Regional High School. Jeff was a little offended with the scuttlebutt that the prep kids couldn't hang with the public school kids. It motivated Jeff to reinvent something that Carmine Colace had initiated the previous summer... an all-star dual meet with prep and public wrestlers. Interestingly, Carmine's original format pitted underclassmen against seniors for "braggin' rights". During the 2012 prep-public dual meet, Phil Grebinar said to Mike Stuer, "this is awesome... the hall of fame should sponsor this event next year!" After talking with Jeff about a collaborative effort, we agreed to combine the dual meet with our spring awards, which we started doing in 2013 at the Belmont Hill School (Jeff's alma mater). In 2017 the Prep-Public Braggin' Rights Dual Meet coupled with the Spring Awards took place at Noble & Greenough School in Dedham, MA. The event was renamed to Mass Mayhem.
