Everest Leydecker, who is the Arizona winner of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's Tricia Saunders High School Excellence Award in 2026, and Areana Villaescusa are set to meet for a third time in the women’s freestyle 55 kg series at 2026 Final X, presented by Kerberos Capital Management. Leydecker and Villaescusa will face off for a spot on the 2026 U.S. World Team on June 19 at Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

The matchup will be a showcase between the experience of Villaescusa and the potential of the 18-year-old Leydecker. Villaescusa, a member of the 2024 Senior World Team, intends to return to the World Championships with a win at Final X; however, she will need to overcome Leydecker for the first time to do so. Leydecker holds a 2-0 record over Villaescusa with a 2-1 semifinal win at the 2025 CLAW U.S. Open Championships, followed by a 4-1 finals victory at the 2026 U.S. Open Championships to secure her place in Newark. Villaescusa was the only competitor to score on Leydecker throughout the 2026 U.S. Open.

Villaescusa brings high-level international experience into the matchup after a fifth-place finish at the 2024 Senior World Championships and a bronze medal at the 2026 Zagreb Open Ranking Series event earlier this year. To secure her spot at Final X, she stamped two victories at the World Team Trials Challenge Tournament, defeating Sara Sterner 12-6 in the semifinals before blanking Alexandra Hedrick 6-0 in the finals.

Leydecker has burst onto the scene during the past few years as a two-time age-group World Team member and a two-time age-group Pan American Championships gold medalist. The incoming University of Iowa freshman has captured Senior gold medals at the Bill Farrell Memorial International, Zagreb Open and Pan American Championships since last November. After winning gold at the 2025 U20 World Championships, Leydecker is hunting for her first Senior World Team spot.

What’s at Stake?

Final X will determine the 2026 U.S. World Team in two international disciplines—men’s freestyle and women’s freestyle. In total, 20 weight classes will be contested, 10 in each discipline. The top two U.S. athletes in each weight class will wrestle a best-of-three series at Final X to determine the U.S. representative at the 2026 Senior World Championships.

The BTSNY Annual Benefit after-party will follow the conclusion of Final X.

This will be the second Final X and Beat the Streets event appearance for both Lilledahl and Lee, following their head-to-head matchup at Final X last June. Lee won that series two matches to none.
