Inaugural National Girls High School Team Rankings Released

The committee which selects the National Girls High School Rankings for individual athletes, which includes representation from USA Wrestling, FloWrestling and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum, has selected a national high school team ranking for the 2021-22 season.

This ranking includes public and private schools at the high school level from all states, including states with official girls state championship events as well as those with unofficial girls state championships.

These ranking reflect the performance of the teams at their season-ending state or national prep competitions. Evaluation includes the number of state champions, number of state medalists, as well as the number of athletes on the teams who are in the individual national rankings. The dual meet season was not a consideration for this year-end national team ranking.

This year, the committee selected the Top 30 high school teams in the nation, as well as 15 honorable mention teams.

Finishing in the Top Five in the high school girls team rankings were No. 1 Wyoming Seminary (Pennsylvania), No. 2 Toppenish (Washington), No. 3 SLAM Academy (Nevada), No. 4 Marina (California) and No. 5 Waverly-Shell Rock (Iowa).

Rounding out the Top 10 were No. 6 Allen (Texas), No. 7 Lebanon (Missouri), No. 8 Amarillo Caprock (Texas), No. 9 Moanalua (Hawaii) and No. 10 Orlando Freedom (Florida).

The committee would like to expand these rankings in 2022-23 to include a preseason ranking, midseason ranking and final ranking. As part of this effort, coaches and leaders from this year’s ranked high schools will be asked in the fall to send their current 2022-23 roster, projected lineup and schedule, as well as any support information. Any high school program which believes its team should be considered for national rankings will also be encouraged to send in their 2022-23 roster, projected lineup and schedule, as well as any support information.

Next week, the committee expects to announce the final National Girls High School Ranking for 2022-23, which will include spring national results through this week’s Junior National Duals.

The next individual ranking after June will come in the fall, with USMC Junior/16U Nationals results included, and will be the preseason rankings for the 2022-23 season (with all of the 2022 high school seniors removed).
