LAS VEGAS – The Greco-Roman Group B finals saw two best-of-three series go the distance, and the final four Senior World Team members established, in front of a packed house at The Expo at World Market Center.
The clash of returning World Team members at 87 kg went to Beka Melelashvili. After winning round one, 3-1, on Saturday morning against Payton Jacobson, Melelashvili was forced to a third round by the Olympian in a 4-3 round two contest. A four-point headlock in the decisive match put the series away.
Melelashvili was the World Team member at 82 kg last year and was teammates with Jacobson, who has held the top spot at 87 kg since 2024. Both men are U23 World medalists and represent the best of U.S. Greco-Roman wrestling.
Also getting it done in three bouts was Army WCAP’s Timothy Young, who took out 2024 U20 World Team member Arian Khosravy at 97 kg to make his first World Team. Young got the first chance on top in round three and never relinquished the position. A decisive lift and turns ended the match, 9-0.
New weight, same result for 2024 Olympian Kamal Bey. He qualified for a fifth Senior World Team, this time at 82 kg, with a series win over 2026 Thor Masters bronze medalist Fritz Schierl. After a first-period pin in round one, Bey completed the sweep with a comfortable 4-1 decision in round two.
Joining Bey with a fifth World Team selection is Cohlton Schultz at 130 kg. Schultz bested Paris Olympian and 2018 World silver medalist Adam Coon by scores of 4-3 and 6-0.
Greco-Roman Group A champions, and World Team members in the six lightest weight classes, were decided on Friday—Max Nowry (55 kg), Dalton Roberts (60 kg), Xavier Johnson (63 kg), Otto Black (67 kg), Benji Peak (72 kg) and Joel Adams (77 kg).
Winners of the Greco-Roman World Team Trials are qualified to represent Team USA at the 2026 Senior World Championships in Manama, Bahrain, this October.
The U.S. Open Championships wrap up on Sunday with a sprint to the finish in the U17 and U20 men’s freestyle divisions, starting at 10 a.m. (PT).
All the action from the U.S. Open Championships is available to watch live or on-demand on FloWrestling. Brackets and match-by-match results can be found on USA Bracketing.
