ANKENY, Iowa —The Ewing family heads to Cabo San Lucas every year for spring break.

This year, Dave Ewing decided to take the plunge off Pelican Rock. He later realized one of his most prized possessions, a National Wrestling Hall of Fame ring, went missing in the ocean.

“I was pretty bummed out, because it had special meaning behind it,” said Ewing. "It just exemplifies all the years of coaching.”

While still in Cabo, Ewing received a shock when his sister called to say his ring had been found.

Three men vacationing in Cabo messaged Ewing’s sister to say they had found a ring while snorkeling by Pelican Rock.

The men found Ewing’s sister after Googling the name inscribed inside the ring.

“They said ‘We’ve looked at all your accomplishments on the Internet, and we want to meet you,’” said Ewing.

“I felt so humbled just by them saying that.”

The National Wrestling Hall of Fame presented Ewing with the ring in 2013.
