Dan Gable Museum releases 3 limited edition items

WATERLOO, Iowa—The National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum is auctioning three very rare items in advance of the 2015 NCAA wrestling tournament.

Each item has special significance to Dan Gable’s wrestling career. All proceeds from the auctions benefit the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum, a not-for-profit organization committed to advancing the sport of wrestling.

Gable won a gold medal at the 1972 Munich Olympics at 149.5 pounds without surrendering a point. He coached the University of Iowa wrestling team to 15 NCAA championships in 21 seasons (1977-1997).

In April of 1973, an article entitled "Gorgeous Dan" ran in Esquire magazine. The following is a copy of the iconic story that John Irving wrote on Dan Gable in 1973. It has been signed by both author (John Irving) and subject (Dan Gable).

Signed Dan Gable and Chuck Yagla collegiate wrestling guides
The following are signed collegiate wrestling guides from 1970 and 1976. Dan Gable (two-time NCAA champion for Iowa State) signed the 1970 guide and Chuck Yagla (two-time NCAA champion for Iowa) signed the 1976 guide.

The following book was written by legendary sports commentator Frank Gifford and signed by Dan Gable on the Contents page. Gable is one of 10 subjects in this book about courage and heroes. Gifford was the color commentator for Gable's gold medal match at the Olympics, and he made the iconic call that Gable was "probably the most dedicated athlete that I've ever known."
