Travis Young

Travis Young wrestled for Indianola High School under Hall of Fame coach Wes Creason. Travis was a State Champion in 1987 at 138 lbs. He went on to have an outstanding career at Simpson College, winning two national titles for them. Travis spent a year as an assistant coach at Simpson College (1992-93) and a year as assistant coach at Indianola during the 1993-94 season. He then was an assistant coach at Valley for three years from 1994-97. Travis was the head coach at Valley High School from 1997-2023. He recorded a coaching record of 444-134-1.

During his coaching years. Travis coached 176 state qualifiers, 88 place winners, and 11 state champions. His teams qualified for state duals 15 times, placing in the top four seven times, and were the 2016 State Dual Champions. His teams placed in the top 10 at the Traditional State Tournament 12 times, including 3rd in 2016 and 2017. His teams won 13 district titles. Travis was a 4 time All American for Simpson placing 6th, 4th, 1st, and 1st.

Travis is married to his wife Teresa and they have a son Casey, and daughters Kelsea and Courtney Henscheid.
