Joe Romig
For a career that exemplifies accomplishments and service to society, Joe Romig is cited as an Outstanding American. Joe Romig's life exemplifies the definition of "Outstanding American." His accomplishments in the fields of Physics, Astrogeophysics, research in the fields of fire, explosions and arson have produced a standard that few can match. . Rocket Scientist certainly applies to Joe Romig, for he is one. He has worked as a Research Scientist for Martin-Marietta Aerospace Inc. and consultant in Applied Physics and Geophysics. He is currently a consultant for Fire and Explosions, Ponderosa Associates, Ltd. in Lafayette, Colorado. He also is an instructor for Continuing Education at the University of Colorado and has a patent for "Process for improved Glass Article Coating, and Such Coated Articles." Romig has been and is a member of several national and international science boards and associations. Among those are the American Association of Rhodes Scholars, New York Academy of Science, American Geophysical Union, American Physical Society, American Association for the Advancement of Science, International Association of Arson Investigators and National Fire Protection Association. He also was the chairman of the Mental Health Association of Colorado (1973). Romig was a twotime high school state wrestling champion at Lakewood (1957-1958). He also was a two-time all-state halfback in football (1956-1957) and went on to earn All-Big Eight and All-America honors (1959-1961) and was the UPI College Lineman of the Year in 1961 at the University of Colorado. He graduated as Cane Barer at Colorado becoming a Rhodes Scholar (1963-1965) studying at Oxford, Woodrow Wilson Scholar (1963) and Dansforth Scholar (1965-1970). Among his many other sports honors: He was named to the Big Eight All-Time team (1969), inducted into the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame (1973), National Football Foundation College Hall of Fame (1984), National High School Hall of Fame (1990), Colorado High School Activities Association Hall of Fame (1993) and the University of Colorado Hall of Fame (1999, scholar and athlete). He currently is a member of the Board of Directors of the National Football Hall of Fame, Colorado Chapter.
