Bill Fuller

William Franklin "Bill" Fuller's wrestling career began in Jesup, Iowa.

Fuller led the J-Hawks to a sixth-place finish at the Iowa state tournament, which was all schools combined, in 1961 in the West Gym at Iowa State Teachers College.

He walked on to the wrestling team at the University of Iowa and was an All-American with a third-place finish at the 1964 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships.

Fuller's dedication to the sport would continue after college. He was a physical education instructor and the head wrestling coach for 10 years at Glenbrook South High School, where he and his assistant coaches enjoyed considerable success with their teams. He served as athletic director at Glenbrook North High School for five years before becoming associate principal at Glenbrook North, a position he held until retirement in 1998.

Fuller loved the choices and opportunities he was given during his career, but always said that the first 10 years were the ones that he enjoyed the most.

He loved working with young men and helping them reach their goals on the wrestling mat. He always believed that they learned many lessons which would help shape their lives in a very positive direction.

Bill always said, "I was born to play." Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him would attest to that statement.
