Jerry Ewing
Jerry Ewing is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling.
Coach Ewing became head coach at McLoughlin high school in 1971 and in the next 30 years he amassed a dual meet record of 409–128–10. McLoughlin high school was district champion 17 of the last 21 years and was either a champion or runner-up 23 of the last 24 years. His teams placed in the top 10 in the state 19 of the last 29 years and were runner up four times. In 1986, 87, 91 and 1992 McLoughlin high school won the state championship. Individually, Jerry had 218 wrestlers qualify for states, with 113 place winners, 11 state runner-up and 20 state champions.
The Oregon State Coaches Association named Jerry “Coach of the Year“ six times and in 1994 he was named National High School Association Wrestling Coach of the Year. From 1980 to 1986 he was chairman of the AA Wrestling Coaches Association and 1982–83 was Wrestling Chairman for the Oregon High School Coaches Association.
For his dedication and lasting influence on wrestling, Jerry Ewing is presented the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s “Lifetime Service to Wrestling“ award for the class of 2001.
