Rollie Lane

July 09, 1941 - January 11, 2019

In a coaching journey that carried him from the Southwest to the Mountain states Rollie Lane left a trail of distinction.

Following his graduation from the University of Northern Colorado in 1963, Lane returned to his alma mater, Nucla High School where he coached for eight years. Under Lane's guidance Nucla went 62-21 with one team district championship. Lane also crowned his first state champion, Butch Crane.

Lane moved to Farmington High School in New Mexico in 1971, where he coached three-time New Mexico state champion Jeff Needs, and two-time champion Staff Polk.

In 1973 Lane moved to Idaho to coach Nampa High School. He coached Nampa to 178 victories and won nine District III championships. His Nampa teams placed in the top three nine times at the Idaho state tournament, including three championship teams and three runner-up finishes.

He stepped away for two years following the 1988 season, but returned to coaching in 1991 to coach at Melba High School for two years, going 20-2 before returning to Nampa in 1995.

The 1996 season found him at Skyview High School where he coached three years before retiring from coaching in 1998.

In all his teams were 320-51 in duals and he coached 25 individual state champions, including his son K.C. Lane who was a two-time champion for Nampa.

Rollie was a nine-time District III Coach of the Year recipient at Nampa and won again in 1993 while coaching at Melba. He was a six-time Idaho Coach of the Year, as well as a national Coach of the Year finalist in 1988 and 1998.

Lane passed away in January of 2019. He and his wife Patty are survived by six children and hundreds of wrestlers that were blessed to have known him.
