Richard Sofman

Richard Sofman was introduced to wrestling during his underclassman years at the University of Pennsylvania.

He was a three-time AAU National Freestyle champion, capturing titles in 1966, 1968 and 1974.

Sofman competed in the World Championships in 1967 and was a member of the U.S. World team in 1969 and 1974.

He won the Pan-American Games in 1967 and was an alternate for the 1968 Olympics.

Sofman won the World University Games in 1968 and the Caccabiah Games in 1969 while being named New Jersey Amateur Athlete of the Year in 1967.

He was a wrestling coach at Montclair State University in the 1979s and a guest coach at many New Jersey high schools and wrestling clinics while also coaching female wrestlers through the New York Athletic Club.
