Edgar Nemir
July 23, 1910 - February 01, 1969
Edgar Nemir wrestled at the University of California Berkeley, leading the 1929 and 1930 teams to undefeated seasons.
He was captain of the 1930 team that won the Pacific Coast AAU tournament and the AAF Western tournament.
Ed did not take great credentials into the 1932 Olympics, his biggest championships having been the Pacific Coast South titles in 1929 and 1930.
In Los Angeles, however, he earned the silver medal, with his only loss coming to gold medalist Hermanni Pihlajamäki of Finland.
Nemir was actually better known as a boxer and after the Los Angeles Games, he turned to boxing.
He returned to his alma mater in 1934 to become the boxing coach, a position he held for 35 years.
Ed received his bachelor's degree in 1930 and graduated from UC Boalt Hall of Law in 1933.
In 1942 he was commissioned as a naval officer to help direct the physical education program at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi in Corpus Christi, Texas.
He was inducted into the Cal Athletic Hall of Fame in 1988.
