Jeff Buxton
Jeff Buxton was head coach at Blair Academy for 30 successful seasons, helping Blair achieve national prominence in the 20th Century.
It became the ultimate "Standard of Excellence" in the 21st Century. Blair was the #1 team in the United States six straight seasons (2000-2006), and again from (2008-2012). Coach Buxton's first top-ranked team in the country was 1995-1996.
Lehigh head coach Pat Santoro was Jeff's first NCAA Champion, capturing back-to-back titles in 1988 and 1989 for Pittsburgh after a runner-up finish in 1987 and a sixth-place finish in 1986.
Including Santoro, Buxton coached 10 wrestlers who won NCAA individual crowns and 46 All-Americans, including six runner-up and seven third-place finishes. Twelve of Buxton's wrestlers earned multiple All-American honors: Kurt Backes (Iowa State), Cory Cooperman (Lehigh), Zack Esposito (Oklahoma State), Mike Evans (Iowa), Sean Gray (Virginia Tech), Steve Mocco (Iowa and Oklahoma State), Matt Palmer (Columbia), Mark Perry (Iowa), Kellen Russell (Michigan), Ed Ruth (Penn State), Santoro (Pittsburgh), and Hudson Taylor (Maryland).
Buxton led Blair to 28 consecutive National Prep School titles from 1985 to 2012 and his wrestlers captured 162 individual titles. Blair competed in 17 Walsh-Jesuit Ironman Tournaments, winning 10 times and finished second six times, and in 18 Beast of the East Tournaments, winning 15 titles and finishing second twice while crowing 51 individual champions.
In 2002 at the Junior Nationals, Blair wrestlers had two first-place finishes, a runner-up finish, three third-place finishes and a fourth-place finish.
