Charles Almeida

Over a 31-year period Chuck Almeida has officiated high school wrestling. In fact, he has done everything connected with officiating wrestling on all levels.

He officiated the Florida state tournament seven times and has worked every major tournament in the United States and international level championships with merit.

From 1976 until his retirement in 1990, Chuck officiated every United States Olympic Trials. On numerous occasions at the national championships, Chuck acted as head official and clinician.

He officiated the Olympics in 1984 and again in 1992, and officiated over 30 World Championships, including 15 Greco-Roman, at all levels. Almeida gained his international license in 1973 and advance to the rank of exceptionnelle in 1978. Upon his retirement as an international official in 1993, he had earned worldwide acclaim as one of the world's best on-the-mat technicians, including being named Official of the Year in 1990.

Almeida also coached at Miami Northwestern and Miami Killian High School, where he had five Florida state champions.

He remains active as a member of the U.S. Wresting Officials Association executive board and as the organization’s national clinician.
