Ron Nagy
Ron Nagy began wrestling as a nine-year-old in Hazel Park, Michigan, in 1960 at competed at Hazel Park High School from 1967-71 and at Wayne State College from 1972-76, where he was team captain.
He coached at Troy High School in 1975 and 1976 and refereed from 1977-2016.
Nagy worked the Michigan High School Athletic Association state wrestling tournament for 32 years. He has been assigned to 40 state wrestling finals, and has been the state tournament director for 27 years after helping design the bracket in 1998.
He was instrumental in the recruitment, training and mentoring of new officials while implementing the merge of four individual/divisional state meets into one all-encompassing state tournament. Comprised of 896 wrestlers, 1,500 coaches, 160 volunteers and 50,000 spectators during a three-day event at the Palace at Auburn Hills, Michigan, it is the largest event of its kind in the country. The event is going into its 15th year of existence.
He’s since It’s earned him the Dave Jackson Distinguished Service Award.
Nagy has helped the community for exceptional children and is the Face of Wrestling Officiating in Michigan.
He created "Friends of Wrestling," a non-profit organization. Nagy received a Hall of Fame as a sports complex director while also being honored as a member of the United States Specialty Sports Association Hall of Fame. He received the MHSAA's Vern Norris Award in 2005 and was inducted into the Michigan Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2015.
Nagy was a member of the Michigan High School Athletic Association from 1977-2016 and was a co-founder and member of the All-American Athletic Association from 1991-2016.
