Charlie Hinds

National Wrestling Hall of Fame 2013 Inductee for Lifetime Service Charlie Hinds Camas High School 1967-2000, 2003-2006 Charlie Hinds wrestled for the University of Idaho where he placed 4th in the Big Sky Conference his senior year. Hinds continued wrestling for the Multnomah Athletic Club in Portland, Oregon, with NCAA Placers and Olympians like Rick Sanders and Henk Shenk. He won the Regional Olympic Trials in 1976 and was the National Masters Wrestling Champion in 1980. Charlie started the wrestling program at Camas High School in 1967 based on high personal integrity, before retiring in 2001. Hinds hosted numerous freestyle tournaments during his coaching career and officiated freestyle tournaments every year from 1970-1986. During his 33 year coaching tenure at Camas High School, Hinds compiled a record of 240 wins and 80 losses (75% winning percentage). He coached ten state champions and 40 state placers. The Camas wresting teams placed in the top twelve teams at state on ten occasions and Camas won nine league titles and three regional championships. One of his state champions, Chol An, was a NAIA National Champion and Outstanding Wrestler in the 1990 NAIA National Wrestling Tournament. After his retirement, the call of wrestling was just too much for Charlie to ignore. Head coach and former Camus wrestler, Glenn Hartman, asked him to be an assistant coach and assured him he would not have to make any decisions. Charlie assisted the Camas High School program from 2003-2006. To Charlie, treating all people with the upmost integrity and respect is how he lives his life. He passed this important lesson to hundreds of student athletes. Hinds was named league Coach of the Year twice and Regional Coach of the Year three times, then the 1998 State Coach of the Year by his peers. Coach was named the Camas-Washougal Coach of the year twice; Inducted into the Randy Myers Foundation Hall of Fame in 1998; Inducted into the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2004; and was the first coach inducted into the newly formed Camas High School Hall of Fame in 2008. Charlie and his wife Lynda still reside in Camas where he has stayed busy remodeling, traveling, playing baseball and softball, fishing, playing guitar, and keeping up the house. He has been amazed at how busy a person can get when he doesn't have to be somewhere at a certain time and place every day. Charlie and Lynda have two grown children Michelle and Tim, and two grandchildren.
