Dylan Cottrell was a four-time West Virginia state champion with a career record of 181-4 for Roane County High School in Spencer, West Virginia.

He earned first-team all-state honors each year since his freshman season and was also a four-time conference and regional champion.

Cottrell was named the Most Outstanding Wrestler at the A-AA State Wrestling Tournament and was the recipient of the 2012 Robert C. Dutton Award, presented annually to the best wrestler in West Virginia.
