Gilbert Padilla
Go the high school in Morenci and ask them where the "Padilla Pit" is. That's right, gilberts following named a school building after him for taking a struggling wrestling program and turning it into a high powered machine. It started in 1980 and continued for 25 years. His teams captured 7 Region titles and in the years 1999, 2000, 2001, 2003 and 2005 he captured 5 State Titles. His teams went 488-170-11. He produced 29 individual State Champions and two All-Americans along the way. Gilbert started and coached the middle school program and directed the kids wrestling camps. He has received many awards for his efforts including National Wrestling Coaches Association Coach of the Year, National Federation of Coaches Association Coach of the Year, and being named to coach the Arizona All Star Teams on four different occasions.
