Denny Daniels

Denny "Doc" Daniels W. F. West High School 1971-2001 Chehalis Middle School, 2001-2002, 2008 to present Denny Daniels was born in Shelton and graduated from Hoquiam High School. A member of the 1967-68 Grays Harbor Community College wrestling team, he received the Coaches Award and was an initial inductee in the GHCC Hall of Fame. Daniels continued his college education at Western Washington University and graduated in 1970, where he finishing second in the Evergreen Conference. Denny then spent his education career at W.F. West High School as a teacher and counselor. Daniels coached at W.F. West High School in Chehalis for 30 years, starting in 1971, as an assistant coach, then head coach from 1985-2001. Daniels has continued to give back to the sport by coaching younger wrestlers. He was the head coach at Chehalis Middle School in 2001-2002, and a part time volunteer from 2003-2007. He has also currently serves as the assistant coach at Chehalis MS starting in 2008. "Doc" also has been coaching the 4th-5th-6th graders in the parks program from 2008 to the present. The 2012-2013 school year is Denny's 40th year of coaching and volunteering in wrestling. Success was the norm during Daniel's coaching career, at W.F. West High School his teams compiled a record of 179 wins against only 40 losses and captured nine league championships and four regional titles. His teams have placed in the state tournament top-ten four times, including fifth in 1998. Daniels has coached 61 state placers, including five wrestlers winning a total of seven state titles and one High School All-American. Daniels taught young men to be good wrestlers, and more importantly how to be great men. He stressed dedication, fairness and class on and off the mat. He has been selected league and district coach of the year several times; Regional Coach of the Year three times, and was selected by his peers as State Coach of the Year in 1997. Denny was inducted into the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in 2004. One of Coach Daniel's biggest accomplishments was spearheading the community fund raiser of $65,000 for the construction of a 108' x 45' wrestling room at W.F. West High School. Under Denny's leadership the entire project was completed through fundraising and donations of labor and materials. A former Army and National Guard reservist, Daniels lives in Chehalis and remains active in the Chehalis Community Foundation and the local United Way. Denny and his wife Vicki have two grown daughters, Darci and Lindsey, and one granddaughter, with a grandson due to arrive around induction time.
