Ed Amick
Hawkins Middle School 1965-1971, 1975-1976 North Mason High School, 1964-2006 North Kitsap High School 2008 to present Ed Amick was the head wrestling coach at North Mason High School for 42 years compiling a record of 409 wins, 179 losses and 4 ties for a winning percentage close to 70%. His teams were state participants for 36 years in a row, with over 100 wrestlers participating in the state tournament including 4 state champions. In addition, his teams won five regional titles, 11 district titles and 13 league championships. After stepping down at North Mason HS, Ed has been an assistant coach at North Kitsap HS for his son Joe. Amick also coached many other sports in the North Mason School District including track, softball, volleyball and football. Coach Amick has been involved in every aspect of wrestling in Washington. He was on the WIAA wrestling committee that established the regional format currently used. He was a force behind the move to two wrestlers in a weight class for post-season tournaments and the development of girls wrestling tournaments. He also served many years as a regional representative for the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association. Ed's emphasis has been on building character in young men and making wrestling a positive influence in their lives. Academics are a high priority for his wrestlers and two of his teams have received the WIAA Academic State Championship awards and has had 12 wrestlers recognized as WSWCA Academic Champions. In recognition of his significant contributions to the sport of Wrestling, Coach Amick has been awarded the Coach of the Year Award in 1981 and 2001. In 1989 Ed was presented with the Scholastic Coach Magazine National High School "Gold Coaching Award". In 2005 he was selected by his fellow coaches as the US Marine Corps "Sportsman of the Year" at Mat Classic. Amick was also selected to coach the Washington Cultural Exchange team to China in 1986. Coach Amick was inducted into the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame in 2002. In 2011 he was induced into the Bremerton Athletic Roundtable's Kitsap Sports Hall of Fame Amick also found time to be active in his community where he has served as an Assistant Scout Master, a member of the Kiwanis Club, the Community Backwood Windjammer Band, Little League baseball and retired from the US Coast Guard both active and reserve after 22 years. Ed and his wife Erlene have five grown children and 11 grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Ed and Erlene will celebrate 50 years of marriage on November 20th, 2013. Ed and Erlene have both retired from the North Mason School District and still live near North Mason High School where they have a rhododendron farm. Ed also continues as a substitute teacher when needed
