Rich Graham

Camas Jr. High/High School Assistant Coach 1970-1974 Elma Junior High Coach 1974-1977 Elma High School 1978-1989 A graduate of St. John High School and Eastern Washington University (1968), Richard Graham began his career in education and coaching in Camas in 1970 under Hall of Fame coach Charlie Hinds. Graham moved to Elma in 1974 as a junior high teacher and head wrestling coach compiling a 27-2-1 dual meet record. Coach Graham moved up to Elma High School in 1978 as head wrestling coach where in his 11 seasons compiled a dual meet record of 117-22-1. Under Coach Graham's guidance Elma wrestling became very successful. His teams placed in the top ten at state 10 times including second twice, third twice and fourth once. He coached 10 individual state champions and 34 state placers. Both of his sons, Mike and David, wrestled for him and were state champions, David 3-times. Rich Graham was also very active on the state level serving as Western Washington Junior Director, USWF State Kids Director, Washington National Team Coach, Cultural Exchange coach for the Washington Junior Team to New Zealand and Coach for the Washington Centennial Games. Honors bestowed on Coach Graham include Black Hills Wrestling Coach of the Year (1985), Washington State Wrestling Coaches Hall of Fame (1990), the Elma High School Athletic Hall of Fame (2000), and the Washington Secondary School Athletic Administrators Association Honor Award (2006). After retiring from coaching, Graham served many more years in athletic and school administration in positions of athletic director, assistant principal, principal and finally superintendent in Washington and Oregon, fully retiring in June of 2006. In his spare time he built his retirement home outside Spokane where Rich and his wife Charlene and their two hunting dogs reside. They keep a busy schedule following all the activities of their 3 adult children, Michael, David and Kimberly and their families including their eight grandchildren
