Steve Anderson

Chinook Junior High 1970-1974 Tyee High School 1974-1976 Lake Stevens High School 1978-1986 Steve began his coaching career in the Highline School District in 1970 after graduating from Western Washington University where he wrestled collegiately. In 1978, he moved to Lake Stevens High School and guided the Vikings to two WESCO 2A titles and produced 23 state placers, including three state champions. Coach Anderson was known for his organizational skills and his total involvement in wrestling at both the local and state levels. Lake Stevens High School hosted numerous international style tournaments for all ages and was an active participant in the Washington State Wrestling Cultural Exchange Program. While at Lake Stevens he hosted three Japanese teams when they toured Washington and assisted many of his wrestlers who were members of Washington Exchange Teams traveling to Asia, South America, Europe and Canada. In 1984 Coach Anderson was one of the coaches that led the first group of high school wrestlers to the People's Republic of China. The leadership skills of Steve Anderson were very apparent as he ws one of the co-founders of the Washington State Wrestling Coaches Association and served on their Executive Board for 6 years. He also represented the sport of wrestling on the WIAA Winter Sports Committee (1981-1986) and was a delegate to the WIAA Representative Assembly for the 1987-1988 school year. Coach Anderson retired from coaching in 1986 to pursue a career in school administration. He still found time to continue his wrestling involvement by serving as one of the founding directors of Mat Classic, the State Wrestling Championships beginning in 1989. Steve Served as the 2A and 3A Mat Classic Tournament Director for 13 years retiring in 2001. In recognition of his significant contributions to the sport of wrestling, Steve was inducted into the Washington State Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1990. Steve is now retired from education and currently resides most of the year in California, but returns each summer to Washington where he and his wife Rolynn cruise the waters of Washington, British Columbia and Alaska on their boat "Intrepid".
