Joe Solorio
Joe has been coaching youth and young adults in wrestling since 1981. During those 30 years he was the coach of the Sunkist Youth Wrestling development club, establishing the Tucson Chapter in 1987. He was a varsity assistant at 5A Salpointe HS where his teams placed 3rd twice, then 5th and 6th during his 4 year stint. He resurrected the Pima Community College wrestling program in 1998. While there he attracted 200 student athletes to Pima College who would normally leave Arizona to continue wrestling or not attend college at all. The majority of these young men moved on to higher education after leaving Pima College and many have gone on to coach at high schools or colleges. While at Pima, his teams produced 39 NJCAA national qualifiers, 19 Academic All- Americans, 12 All-Americans, and 3 National finalists. At the Nationals his teams placed 4th in 2002 and 10th in 2005. Joe was named NJCAA "Man of the Year" in 2000 and he was awarded both NJCAA Coach of the Year and Sportsmanship Award in 2002. He helped raise money to found and support the "Coach Easton Foundation" providing scholarships for wrestlers attending college.
