Nancy Perry

Nancy Perry is a graduate of Averett College, now Averett University, and the College of William and Mary. She began her 25 plus years of support for wrestling when Donald Moore asked if her son Matt could come “play” with his son Jackie while Donald coached a youth league team. That led to endless matches, tournaments, travel and lifelong friendships.

Perry served as a team leader for Poquoson, G. W. of Danville, and Fork Union Military Academy as well as matchmaker for Poquoson Youth Wrestling. Candido Rodriquez taught Perry the ins and outs of running a bracket room, which she did, from 1994-2001, both in Virginia and North Carolina.

She began working with the Virginia Duals in 1996 and has handled table workers, working with her daughter Gair, the Outstanding Wrestler award, assisted with the program book, and worked in the hospitability room. She also organized the 20th Anniversary party for the Virginia Duals. Perry has also served on the committees to organize the 25th and 30th anniversary parties. Perry has assisted John Graham and Mike McCormick with the college teams for the Virginia Duals since 1999.

Beginning in 1999, Perry began serving as a board member of the Peninsula Wrestling Association and served for three years as the president. She has served as the secretary-treasurer of the Virginia Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame since 2001 while also handling the organization of the yearly banquet.

Perry is the Director of Museums for the City of Portsmouth, and a member of Kappa Delta Pi, the National Education Honorary Society. In 2008, she was awarded the Cultural Alliance of Greater Hampton Roads Alli Award.

Her daughter Gair is married to Nate Ayers and the couple has one daughter together, Emily, who turned one today. Her son Matt and his wife Lauren are expecting their first child in May.
