Jack Woodward
Jack Woodward was a pioneer in Maryland Wrestling. He was a competitor in the first Baltimore County wrestling match for Towson HIS in 1955. Jack also started the Golden Ring Jr. wrestling program in 1960, as well as the Perry Hall Jr. program in 1967. He was instrumental in the start of the Overlea HS program in 1961,and also started the Essex Community College Team in 1964. Three of these programs are still going strong.
Jack's involvement with the Maryland Junior Wrestling League included becoming one of its first Presidents. During his leadership, the MJWL was incorporated and he was successful in helping to organize the first Junior League State Tournament.
In 1965, Jack joined the Maryland Wrestling Officials Association. During his tenure, he has served in multiple capacities including President and Commissioner for four years. He continues to serve as a member of the evaluation committee. During his membership, he continuously was MPSSAA State Tournament on four occasions, while setting an examplefor younger members of the MWOA.
His outstanding performance as a coach and as an official, served as anfollow. His career in the sport of wrestling, for over 50 years, set and example for everyone he touched. His dedication, integrity, and moral character are all prime reasons for his induction into the National Wrestling hall of Fame & Museum, Maryland Chapter.
