Doug Conrey
Doug Conrey is a pioneer who has played a foundational role in growing wrestling in Texas.
In 1973, he introduced wrestling to the physical education curriculum at San Antonio Roosevelt High School and organized the first wrestling tournament in the San Antonio area.
Conrey also started the first travel team club in the region, leading teams to success in state tournaments. He was integral to wrestling’s inclusion as a University Interscholastic League-sanctioned sport and became a respected official during Texas’ inaugural UIL season in 1999.
He founded the Alamo Area Wrestling Officials Association and has officiated multiple UIL State Championships throughout his 17-year officiating career.
Conrey has left an indelible mark on the sport in Texas.
