Dr. John Berry

Dr. John Berry, Jr. was arguably one of the greatest high school wrestling coaches Idaho has ever seen.

John served as the head coach at Sugar-Salem High School for thirty years, from 1976-2006. Over those three decades he coached 10 state championship teams, 58 individual wrestling champions, and amassed a dual record of 434-42.

John worked tirelessly to build a tradition of excellence within Sugar-Salem’s wrestling program.

John was honored on numerous occasions for his dedication and service including being awarded State Wrestling Coach of the Year 12 times, receiving the Gary Comstock Award six times, receiving the Keith Williams

Award six times, and being inducted into both the Idaho Wresting Hall of Fame and the Idaho High School Activities Association Hall of Fame.

As a wrestler, he was a two-time NCAA qualifier for Idaho State University.
