Curt Boushell

Curt Boushell graduated from Stroudsburg High School in Pennsylvania in 1959 (before wrestling). He then attended Penn State University for two years before transferring back home to East Stroudsburg University, graduating in 1964. Curt accepted a teaching position at Towson Town Junior High School in Baltimore County, and three years later transferred to Pikesville High School, coaching the three sports he played in high school ; football, basketball, and baseball. Curt continued coaching football for the next 27 years until retirement, whereupon the football field was named after him, BOUSHELL FIELD HOME OF THE PANTHERS.

When the wrestling coach at Pikesville threatened to drop the program unless he got a competent assistant, Curt stepped in, even though his only experience in wrestling was a class at E.S.U. taught by Clyde 'Red' Witman, a Pennsylvania Hall of Famer and future president of the National Wrestling Association. After the first match against Hereford, the varsity coach quit the program and dropped it into Curt's lap.

Curt started his coaching career with one win in his first 15 league matches. He did establish the WALL OF FAME at Pikesville High School, because one of his wrestlers went on to the state tournament that first year. Curt built the program into a perennial power with only four losing seasons in his last 21 years of coaching, and only one losing season from 1980-1994.

Curt's high water mark came 10 years after taking over the reins, when Pikesville won the Baltimore County and Regional tournaments in 1982 and finished eighth in the state. Pikesville High School did not have a junior league feeder program during Curt's tenure, so he had to make do with inexperienced athletes and start with the basics every year. Curt had two state champions and a dozen top four state place- winners along with many Baltimore County Champions during his coaching career.

Curt received the Sportsmanship Award from the Maryland Wrestling Officials Association, was head coach of the gold medal winning 1A/2A All Star team, with Dean Cox, in 1993, and was elected to the Baltimore County Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1994.

Curt and Blanche, his wife of 45 years, are the proud parents of Scott and Dr. Thomas, both whom are United States Air Force Lieutenant Colonels. Curt has touched the lives of hundreds and hundreds of Pikesville athletes and is very proud of their accomplishments, both in school and in life.
