Timothy Brown

His career goal was to make each and every individual who stepped foot in his classroom and on the mat a more productive citizen.
Tim Brown was born in Washington, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Amphitheater High School in Tucson, Arizona. Tim graduated from the University of Arizona in 1971 with a bachelor's degree in education. He also earned his master's degree in education (1979) and educational administration (1986) from the University of Arizona.
Tim began his teaching and coaching career at Douglas High School in l972. For 31 years he taught American/Arizona History, government, economics, and world history. He sponsored many clubs including the startup of the wrestling program and club.
He was involved in some aspect of coaching since the start of his career. From 1972-74 he was a freshman football coach and assistant varsity football coach. In 1974, with the influence of his uncle, John McGlumphy, (Lifetime Service to Wrestling recipient who started the wrestling program in Benson, Arizona in 1958), Tim helped start the wrestling program at Douglas High School. He was named the head wrestling coach in 1980 and held that position through 2003 when he retired.
He is a member of the Arizona and National Wrestling Coaches Association and the Arizona Coaches Association.
Tim has been the state records chairman of the Arizona Wrestling Coaches Association since 1986. Tim compiled a dual meet record of 596-256-2 which currently puts him first on the list of all-time winningest wrestling coaches in Arizona. He was an Arizona Coaches Association All-Star coach in 1986, 1991, 1995, 2002, and 2009.
During his career, Tim coached five region championship Teams, 80 individual region champions, and 11 individual state champions. Of these wrestlers, Tim had a total of 15 participate in the All-Stars.
Even after all the success Tim has had, his proudest moments were when he received the Teacher of the Year Award in 1985 at Douglas High School, and the Man of the Year award from the USA Wrestling Arizona Chapter in 2003.
Tim received the Lifetime Service to Wrestling award from the Arizona Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2009.
During his career, Tim has been supported in his coaching endeavors by his wife, Doris, and their three children, Jason, Jennifer, and Jeff. The entire family played a role in the success of the Douglas wrestling program. The Browns are very appreciative of all of the support they received from the community of Douglas through out the years.
In 2015, the Douglas Wrestling Invitational was renamed the Tim Brown Douglas Invitational, in honor of Tim's 31 years of service and dedication to the sport in Douglas.
While enjoying two years of retirement and a move to Tucson, the Browns continued to support the sport of wrestling by frequently attending matches and tournaments.
Tim became the head coach at Salpointe Catholic High School in 2005. The Lancer wrestling program grew under Tim's direction and won the region championship in 2009.
Since 2010 Tim has been enjoying retirement in Tucson with his wife, children and grandchildren. He enjoys spending time with friends, bowling, and still maintains the state wrestling records for Arizona.
