Greg Slick
Over 31 years coaching career Greg Slick has demonstrated those qualities of dedication and leadership that are necessary to the achievement of success in any endeavor. His wrestling began at North Hagerstown high School under Coach Don Healey while also participating in football and attempted to wrestle but spent most of the time recovering from a knee injury that carried over from football. Mid year his sophomore the wrestling program was discontinued.
After graduating from Frostburg State University Greg returned to teach and coach at North Hagerstown high school. For three years Greg taught Physical Education and assisted his former Mentor Coach Don Healey as JV Coach. In 1979 he became head wrestling coach and continues in that role today (2021). Greg Slick was a hard working athlete who experienced many difficult lessons through the sport.
Winning is more difficult for some than others and Greg's experience was mixed. He persevered through four years of high school wrestling and was stronger and more mature for the experience. Lessons learned through athletics have encouraged many your young people to face hardships. After initiating his coaching career, Coach Slick became a student of the sport of wrestling and availed himself and his wrestlers of every opportunity for gaining knowledge, skills and experience. the fruit of his efforts is reflected in his achievements at North Hagerstown high school teams and increased opportunities for all wrestler.
North Hagerstown wrestlers made significant achievements at the county and state level. Coach Slick coached twenty one Maryland State place winners and produced four State Champions. In addition sixty-two wrestlers have won County Championships while North North Hagerstown has won the County Wrestling Championship five times. Coach Slick's Dual Match Coaching record is 263-151-2.
Most importantly, Greg Slick is recognized for his generous donation of time, knowledge, abilities, and energy to encourage people to participate in physical exercise.
Greg Slick has served on the National Wrestling Hall of Fame - Maryland Chapter Executive Board for 21 years and was one of the founding boarding members of the Maryland Chapter.
