George McKelvie
George McKelvie served as a school administrator in Baltimore County from 1968 to 1988. Prior to that, he taught Mathematics and Science for 7 years and was a Department Chairman for 4 years. Upon his retirement, George served the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic
Association as its first Coordinator of Officials from 1988 to 1997.He attended Windber High School in Windber, Pennsylvania where he earned 10 Varsity letters in wrestling, football, and baseball. George then attended Concord College in Athens, West Virginia where he played 4 years of football and baseball, graduating with a BS degree in 1957. His Masters Degree in Educational Administration was completed at the University of Maryland in 1963.
George McKelvie has been actively involved in the sport of wrestling forthe last 7 decades. During his career as an educator, George coached athletes from the junior league level to college programs. His face is a familiar one in many gymnasiums across Maryland, where he has served as a wrestling official at both the high school and college level.
George has officiated numerous regional and state tournaments as well as countless high profile tournaments and dual meets, including the first Maryland State Public High School Tournament in 1970. He has been active in the Florida High School Activities Association as a referee for the past 5 years. He also has worked several Division I and II NCAA qualifying tournaments.
Throughout his career, George has demonstrated his dedication,commitment, and expertise in the wrestling arena. He approaches each responsibility with a high degree of professionalism. George McKelvie is a true ambassador for the sport of wrestling.
