Louis Timok
Beginning in 1960 and continuing through 1995, Lou Timok officiated at every level – high school, college and international – and served as the commissioner of the Central Virginia Wrestling Officials Association for 10 years.
Timok discovered his passion for tournaments in 1965 and he proceeded to direct or work more than 100 tournaments, including scholastic, collegiate, AAU, USA Wrestling, the Junior Olympics, summer tournaments and more.
Wrestling tournaments became a passion for the entire family. His wife, Ginnie, could run a tournament by herself with ability to score, match make and officiate. Each of his girls could score, time and run a table, which they did countless times at not only local tournaments, but also at other tournaments.
While winning was important, it was not the most primary focus for Timok with his wrestlers. His 1969 team had a record of 7-5 and 13 wrestlers graduated. Twelve of the 13 went on to postgraduate education and the 13th went into the United States Army. Of the 12 who attended college, three became medical doctors, two became ministers, one became a bank president, one is a magistrate, and one is a graduate of the United States Naval Academy. The other four also graduated from college. Never in his 15 years of coaching did Timok ever have a wrestler leave the team because of poor grades.
Timok now lives in McCormick, South Carolina and enjoys the quiet country life whether golfing, woodworking, doing taxidermy, fishing or hunting.
