Tom Marsh

A native of New Bern, North Carolina, Marsh played football and wrestled at New Bern High School where he won two conference titles and qualified for the state championships.  He was a letterman at East Carolina University under Coach John Welborn, graduating in 1970.  Marsh’s 27-year coaching career included working as a graduate assistant at East Carolina (one season), head coach at Jacksonville High (two seasons), head coach at East Carteret High (three seasons) and at New Bern High (19 seasons head, two assistant).  Marsh fashioned a 357-113-2 career coaching record, coached 11 state high school champions, 26 state medalists, 85 state qualifiers, and 77 individual conference champions.  His teams captured 12 Conference Championships and his New Bern teams finished top 10 in the state tournament nine times. Over his career, Tom Marsh directed over 90 tournaments in Eastern North Carolina including numerous North Carolina State Games. Marsh has served as a Board Member of the North Carolina Wrestling Coaches Association and the Wrestling Chairman of the North Carolina State Games. Marsh was inducted into the New Bern High School Hall of Fame in 2006 and into the North Carolina Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2007.
