Larry Isenberg
Larry Isenberg grew up one of 12 siblings (5 brothers and 5 sisters and one sister is deceased) and is the son of Sam and Nadine Isenberg (deceased). As a youngster he was competitive and active all way throughout school. Larry graduated from Helias High School, Jefferson City, MO in 1973 where he wrestled 3 years and played football for 3 years. Larry was one of the founding members of what was to be a historic run for Helias HS in Missouri wrestling. In 1973, Larry was a 138 lb. Missouri State Runner up for the Helias Crusaders helping the team to their first ever state placing at a team.
When you think of a great wrestling official you see a vision of Larry Isenberg. Someone that is very knowledgeable with a calm demeanor, always hustling into position but invisible to most even in chaotic situations. These traits were symbolic of Larry Isenberg as a wrestling official for his 38 years of service and during all 28 state tournaments that he officiated until retiring in 2016 at the top of his game. He earned respect in the state through his hard work and consistently performing at a higher level. Coaches knew that if Larry was in the center circle then they were getting one of the best.
Larry was selected as the 2016 Missouri Wrestling Association Official of the Year. In 2017, Larry was inducted into the Missouri Wrestling Association Hall of Fame. He was also presented with the MSHSAA Distinguished Service Award in 2017 for his service to interscholastic activities in the State of Missouri.
Larry retired in 2020 after 42 years as the owner of his own successful floor covering business where he relied on that same work ethic to succeed. He continues to stay active in the wrestling world by being a mechanics technician and as an observer for the State of MO, positions he has held for the last 20 seasons. He is still passionate about officiating and really enjoys helping young officials grow.
Larry married his wife “Daisy” (LouAnn) Rice in 1979 and has 3 daughters Annie, Heidi and Carly as well as 3 grandchildren Gracyn, Connor and Tyler.
