Dennis Jacobson

August 05, 1950 - Present

Dedication, Mentorship, and a strong passion for teaching all while remaining humble in the midst of his accomplishments are a few characteristics used by friends and colleagues to describe Dennis Jacobson. A 1973 graduate of Boise State, Dennis was a multi-sport athlete growing up and for the past several decades he has dedicated his life to teaching and coaching at the middle and high school levels in Blackfoot. From the very start of his teaching tenure for the Blackfoot School District #55, Dennis made an immediate impact to the students he taught. What’s more, his involvement with coaching wrestling began not too long after when he brought his son “Travis” to the little kid’s wrestling program in Blackfoot.  It became very transparent that Dennis not only had a distinctive ability to motivate kids to join the sport, but more importantly, the skill to create a fun and rewarding environment to excel. Developing kids to embrace discipline, hard work, and endurance through hardships on the mat and in life was his formula. Dennis’ formula for success expanded further in the community when he became the head coach at Mountain View Middle School, Blackfoot High School, and Freestyle/Greco Wrestling Club. Building a strong wrestling culture proved positive as his teams produced numerous Middle School State Champions, over twenty high school conference championships, numerous district and state placers, as well as multiple top four finishes at state, which includes back-to-back state titles in 1999 – 2000 where his son Travis also earned two individual state titles. After retiring from coaching in 2024, the impact that Dennis has had in the sport in Idaho and abroad will be felt for many years to come.
