David Crockett

A key figure behind the microphone and behind the scenes, David Crockett played a pivotal role in the rise of Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling and the national expansion of professional wrestling during the 1970s and 1980s. As a broadcaster, executive, and member of the legendary Crockett wrestling family, his influence helped shape the golden era of studio wrestling and beyond.

The son of Jim Crockett Sr., founder of Jim Crockett Promotions (JCP), David carried on the family tradition with deep respect for wrestling’s athletic and entertainment value. As a color commentator and co-host on Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling, World Wide Wrestling, and later World Championship Wrestling, Crockett became one of the most familiar voices in the industry, often calling matches alongside Tony Schiavone and Bob Caudle. His enthusiastic, emotionally invested commentary brought authenticity and excitement to some of wrestling’s most iconic moments.

Behind the scenes, Crockett served in various executive roles within JCP, helping facilitate the company’s television production, talent relations, and growth into a national promotion. His work contributed to the success of major events like Starrcade and The Great American Bash, and he was instrumental during the company's pivotal years leading into the eventual sale to Ted Turner.

David Crockett’s induction into the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame honors not only his legacy as a voice of a generation but also his enduring impact on the business and presentation of professional wrestling. His lifelong dedication helped preserve wrestling’s traditions while ushering it into a new era of national prominence.
