Jason Townsend

Jason Townsend began his wrestling career at the age of seven in Indian Head, Maryland. He graduated from Rising Sun High School in 1995 after winning two Maryland State High School Wrestling Titles. He attended Syracuse University working with Coaches Ed Carlin and Gene Mills. After receiving his Associates Degree locally he transferred to Hofstra, wrestling under Coach Tom Ryan.

Jason worked as an NCAA Assistant Wrestling Coach for California State University at Fullerton while acquiring his Bachelors Degree in History in 2006, Jason traveled to Las Vegas where he was the Head Wrestling Coach for Xtreme Couture MMA. He developed and implemented a wrestling program for youths and adults and pioneered the XCMMA USA Wrestling Club Charter. Jason also had the opportunity to train and work with a number of the biggest fighters in the MMA and help them to hone their wrestling skills.

Jason helped plan, organize and coordinate the inaugural Grappling event at the FILA World Wrestling Games held in Turkey in 2007. He served as the technical director for rules education and development for the FILA World Grappling Committee and he was the Head Instructor of the FILA courses in the US, France, Brazil, Nicaragua, Switzerland, Turkey and Panama.

Jason was the USA Wrestling Manager of Developing Wrestling Styles as well as the Grappling World Team Coach and Team Leader where he coached the team to 9 individual gold medals and the team title at the 2007 World Championships and the No Gi and Gi World Team Title at the 2008 World Championships. He is very proud to be the author of the first FILA Grappling official rules and regulations.
