Mark Voyce
Mark Voyce was born and raised in Knoxville, Iowa, where he participated in Football, Wrestling, track and field, and Baseball. Mark excelled in wrestling, making it within an eyelash of the State Tournament in both his Junior and Senior Years.
Voyce attended Cornell College in Iowa, earning degrees in Physical Education and Elementary Education. Mark continued to wrestle, but injuries cut his career short. Voyce took a teaching job in Texas, where he met his wife, Melissa, who was also from Iowa. They got married and came to Minnesota, where Mark was hired by Hayfield to teach third grade, and Melissa was hired to teach first grade in Austin. Dave Erickson was looking for an assistant wrestling coach, and Mark accepted the position. After four years, Dave and Mark became Co-Head Coaches, and three years later, Coach Erickson retired, and Mark took over the reins. The program continued to thrive under Voyce and the transition was seamless. Mark will be forever grateful to Coach Erickson for his mentorship, guidance, and friendship. Voyce feels blessed to have been able to be on the mat for 16 Individual State Championships as well as three State Team Appearances where Hayfield took Runner-up honors in 1993 and 1996 and earned a State Team Title in 1997. After ten tears at the helm, Mark switched gears and became a wrestling official – and a good one. Voyce was selected to work the State Tournament Finals on three separate occasions.
