Heidi Schmitz
Heidi Schmitz, daughter of Duane and Sharon Hart, was born and raised on a farm just northeast of Stewartville along with her brother Doug. Heidi and her husband Dale live on her grandparents’ farm site, and brother Doug farms the land with occasional help from Dale.
Dale and Heidi began to get involved in the Stewartville wrestling program when oldest son Cory, a two-time State Qualifier and State Place-winner, started wrestling in the Youth program and became completely immersed when younger son Michael, a two-time State Champion for Stewartville and a National Champion at UW LaCrosse, joined the program. Dale and Heidi started helping organize all parts of the youth program, from practices, meets, and tournaments to end-of-year banquets and parties.
Heidi also helped put together an annual pre-season wrestling book for the varsity program, along with statistics, records and wrestling heritage. She served as wrestling cheerleader advisor, managed the concession stand for home tournaments, and helped organize spring wrestling events along with summer camps and clinics. Heidi worked alongside Pat Short, helping with pairings and brackets for Freestyle and Greco Regional and State Tournaments. If there was a Folkstyle, Freestyle or Greco Tournament in Southern Minnesota, there was a good chance that Heidi was there helping to get things done and done well.
When husband Dale took over for Bill Hinchley as the chair of MN / USA Wrestling, Heidi was there to assist him in a multitude of duties. As Dale will attest, behind every successful man is an exhausted woman.
